Phillies Roll Over Cubs, 9-3
|
Philadelphia Phillies starter Bill Singer was in fine form against the Chicago Cubs at Veterans Stadium 1971, leading his team to a win, 9-3. In 9 innings, Singer surrendered 8 hits, while striking out 5 and walking 2. He allowed 3 runs. With the victory, the Phillies upped their record to 31-24.
Andre Dawson, who is a four-time All-Star, aided the Philadelphia cause with a 2-run double in the bottom of the fourth. For the game, the left fielder was 1 for 4 with a double, while adding 2 RBI and scoring once.
"It's not about individual awards," Singer told a Philadelphia Observer reporter after the game. "It's about winning championships. That's what we play for."
