The Spartanburg Spartans did little to support starter Scott Budner against the Greenville Spinners, but it turned out he didn't need the help.
The left-hander spun a complete game shutout against the Spinners, striking out 4 and surrendering 5 hits. The performance from Budner allowed Spartanburg to escape with the 3-0 win despite an anemic offense.
"Nobody came to me and said 'Scott, we're gonna need you to win this one for us today,' but I could feel it," Budner told BNN reporters following the win. "I'm the guy that will step up for you when you need it."
This season to date Budner has a record of 8 wins and 6 losses with a 3.75 ERA, has appeared in 22 games and struck out 123 in 158.1 innings.
