Yankees Lose to Orioles, 2-1
|
Pitching was the name of the game in a tight contest between the Baltimore Orioles and the New York Yankees. Baltimore won it, 2-1. Baltimore starter Jim Clancy was in command. The winning pitcher was Clancy, now 2-9. He tossed 7.1 innings of 5-hit ball, while walking 3 and fanning 4. Dave LaRoche converted his 1st save in 1 tries.
Dave Parker went 1 for 2, while adding 2 RBI for Baltimore. The slugging right fielder had a key at-bat in the bottom of the sixth. With one out and a runner on 3rd, he broke a 1-1 tie with a run-scoring sacrifice fly off Steve Shields. It was his 27th RBI of the season.
"I just tried to see the ball and put a good swing on it," said Parker.
The Orioles raised their record to 15-43.
