Yankees Deal Red Sox 7-4 Defeat
|
Boston first baseman Orestes Destrade had a terrific game, but it still wasn't enough to get his team a win. Destrade was 3 for 4 with a home run and 2 singles, while adding 3 RBI and scoring once, even as New York beat the Red Sox, 7-4. Rick Honeycutt got credit for the win, improving to 11-11. He allowed 4 runs on 9 hits in 8 innings. Manny Sarmiento was credited with the save. He has now successfully converted 14 of 17 save opportunities.
New York used a well-timed hit by George Kaage to capture the win. The designated hitter socked a 2-run double in the top of the fifth inning to put the Yankees ahead, 6-4. Though it was his only hit in 3 at-bats, it was important.
"We'll relax tonight and enjoy this win," said Kaage.
The win puts New York at 79-77 this season.
