Chicago Wins, 5-4, in Extra Innings
|
The Philadelphia Phillies got a sterling performance from pitcher Tony Villa, but the Chicago Cubs still prevailed, 5-4. Villa threw 6 innings of 4-hit ball. George Durham earned his 11th save in 13 chances. Chicago, at 66-91, sits in last place in the National League East Division.
Chicago used a clutch hit from Johnny Grubb to get the win. The pinch hitter drilled a solo home run in the top of the 11th inning to put the Cubs ahead, 5-4. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a doozy.
"You get some opportunities, you better take advantage of them," said Philadelphia manager Arlo Zimmerman.
