McDevitt No-Hits Newark
Utica Blue Jays starter Steve McDevitt said he was standing behind the mound when the scoreboard caught his eye, confirming what he already knew: He was one out from a no-hitter. For a couple of seconds, he didn't move.

"I took a breath and told myself 'This is the last one,'" McDevitt recalled.

The right-hander collected himself, got the final out, and finished one of the greatest performances of his career.

The Utica right-hander no-hit the Newark Black Sox 7-0 at Addison Grounds, finishing with 2 walks and 7 strikeouts, facing only 29 batters.

"I knew for a while it was a no-hitter," McDevitt admitted later. "But I really didn't worry about it until the last out. I thought I just wanted to win the game, and then I realized I wanted the no-hitter, too."

This year McDevitt has recorded a 5-3 mark. In 8 starts he has fanned 61 batters in 63.2 innings with a 2.26 ERA.
