Blue Jays Lose to Mariners, 9-5
|
Toronto third baseman Juan Monasterio was sensational. He was 2 for 4 with a home run and a double. He scored 2 times and drove in 2, but it wasn't enough to rally his team to a win. Seattle beat the Blue Jays, 9-5. Timothy Jones, now 2-0, was credited with the win. He allowed no runs on 1 hit, while striking out 4 and walking 1. With the win, Seattle pushed its record to 42-31.
The Blue Jays had been locked in a 5-5 tie with the Mariners going into the bottom of the fifth inning. That changed quickly when the 1981 AL home run champion Chris Wynn came to the plate. Wynn hit a 2-run home run on a 2-1 fastball from Toronto hurler Nick Piazza. It was Wynn's 18th home run of the year.
"We take it day by day here," said Wynn, "and today was a good one for us."
