McDonald, Padres Too Much for Reds
|
Good production from left fielder Jerry McDonald helped the San Diego Padres topple the Cincinnati Reds, 11-9. McDonald was 3 for 5 with a home run, 2 singles, and a walk. He scored 2 runs and drove in 3 for the Padres. Skip Lockwood earned the win to go to 4-8. He allowed 7 runs on 6 hits, with 4 walks and 2 strikeouts in 5 innings of work. David Sandoval notched his 11th save in 13 chances.
San Diego relied on the hitting of Heriberto Soltero to pick up the win. The first baseman clubbed a 3-run home run in the top of the fifth inning to put the Padres on top, 10-5. For the game, Soltero had 1 home run and 1 single in 5 at-bats.
"Enjoyed this one," McDonald told the San Diego Bulletin. "But it's back to work tomorrow."
The win has San Diego at 28-42.
