The New York Yankees did just enough to secure a victory over the Texas Rangers, 7-6, at Arlington Stadium 1979. Nobody did more than left fielder Pedro Guerrero. Jose Paz came out of the bullpen to earn the win. The left-hander allowed no runs on no hits in 2 innings. His record now stands at 1-0. The loss has the Rangers at 2-5.

The game was at a stalemate until third baseman Wade Boggs came to bat in the top of the 12th. Facing Texas pitcher Kent Tekulve, he hit a 2-2 changeup for a run-scoring single. It was a game-changer, putting New York on top, 7-6.

"We can always improve and get better, but we're feeling confident after that win," said Boggs.
