Pirates Edge Expos, 3-2
|
Pittsburgh Pirates starter Kelly Downs was in fine form against the Montreal Expos at Olympic Stadium, leading his team to a win, 3-2. Downs, now 2-4, was the winner. In 9 innings, he gave up 6 hits, while striking out 7, walking 3, and allowing 2 runs. The win puts Pittsburgh at 26-44.
It could have been a different outcome for Pittsburgh, had it not been for Dan Gladden, the 24-year old left fielder . Gladden contributed a run-scoring single in the top of the fifth inning to put Pittsburgh up, 3-1.
After the game, Pittsburgh manager Eddie Komrska applauded the team's effort. "They busted their tails out there," he said.
