New York Gets 3-2 Win
|
Behind an impressive start by Steve Shields, New York beat Cleveland, 3-2. Shields, now 11-12, was the winner. In 8.1 innings, he gave up 4 hits, while striking out 9, walking 2, and allowing 2 runs. With the win, New York upped its record to 80-78.
New York used a well-timed hit by Willie Wilson to capture the win. The center fielder socked a run-scoring double in the top of the first inning to put the Yankees ahead, 1-0. Though it was his only hit in 4 at-bats, it was important.
"Steve made his pitches," said New York manager Corey Cashen.
