Cardinals Beat Pittsburgh, 6-5
|
The St. Louis Cardinals overcame a fine performance by Pittsburgh shortstop Ron Oester to defeat the Pirates, 6-5, at Three Rivers Stadium 1975. Oester went 2 for 4 with a home run. He drove in 3 runs and scored once. The winner was Larry Andersen in relief. His record improves to 10-10. Timnothy Milner took the loss. The triumph puts St. Louis at 84-75 for the season.
St. Louis used the timely hitting of Pascual D'Annunzio to seize the win. The pinch hitter stroked a run-scoring single in the top of the tenth inning to put the Cardinals on top, 6-5. It was his only hit in 1 at-bat, but it was a game-changer.
"I felt good up there," said D'Annunzio. "I saw the ball well."
