Cubs Prevail, 3-1, Over Pittsburgh
|
The Chicago Cubs got a stellar performance from pitcher Danny Darwin, who handcuffed the Pittsburgh offense en route to a win, 3-1, at Wrigley Field 1979. The winning streak has now reached 4 games for the Cubs.
Johnny Grubb, who finished 4th in the NL in on-base percentage with .376 in 1978, aided the Chicago cause with a run-scoring single in the bottom of the first. For the game, the third baseman was 2-4 with a double.
"Whenever we hold the other team to one run," said Cubs manager Jeff Griggs, "I like our chances."
