Orioles Squelch Spiders Offense in Shutout Win
|
Baltimore starter Andrew Castillo had a strong outing against the Cleveland Spiders at Memorial Stadium 1954. The right-hander was a big part of his team's 3-0 win. Dave Patterson converted his 4th save in 5 tries. The 5th-place Spiders have dropped 4 straight games.
The Orioles grabbed the lead in the bottom of the fourth. With no one out, Fred Lynn, who finished 5th in the AL in slugging percentage with .484 in 1973, hit a solo home run off Vinny Mendoza, putting Baltimore in front, 2-0. For Lynn, it was his 8th home run of the season.
"This level of focus will win us a lot of ballgames," Castillo said after the game.
