Kirby Pitches Gem as Angels Beat Texas, 3-0
|
In an outstanding mound performance, California Angels starter Clay Kirby fired a complete-game shutout against the Texas Rangers at Arlington Stadium 1979 today.
Kirby was the key to the Angels's 3-0 win. The 34-year-old right-hander was in high spirits on the mount for much of the game, his mood largely undented by the 5 hits and no walks he allowed.
"5 hits?" he said with a laugh following the game. "Listen, I'd be happy with a 30-hitter as long as it was a shutout."
This year Kirby has gone 6-3 with an ERA of 2.84 and has 76 strikeouts in 117.1 innings.
