Petry Shackles Detroit Wednesday, August 4th, 1982 It wasn't easy but the Kansas City Royals made it look that way. Starter Dan Petry shut out the Detroit Tigers despite having what he later called "sub-par" stuff, and the Kansas City Royals cruised to victory, 7-0. Petry allowed only 2 hits and rang up 8 strikeouts but insisted later that he did not deserve primary credit for the win. "It didn't feel quite right today, but I got a lot of help to get through," he said. "I trusted my catcher and the guys behind me bailed me out more than once when I screwed up." This year Petry has fashioned a 5-3 mark, 3.96 ERA and pitched 63.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .221 against him and he has logged 46 strikeouts.
