Mendoza Twirls 2-0 Shutout Monday, August 30th, 1982 Cleveland Spiders fans were pleased to see so many goose eggs up on the scoreboard as Vinny Mendoza blanked the Chicago White Sox, 2-0 at Comiskey Park 1969 today. Mendoza stopped them on 1 hit while walking 0 and striking out 9. "Once he gets in a groove, he can be dynamite," Spiders skipper Sean Torgerson said. "He was on top of his game in this one." Mendoza has made 28 starts so far this year and put up a 10-7 won-lost record with a 3.22 ERA. In 187.1 innings he has allowed 158 hits, walked 60 and struck out 149.
