Dreadful Season Sees Playoff Hopes Dashed for Chicago
Sunday, September 12th, 1982
Ray Burris said it's going to be "an awfully long offseason" for the Chicago Cubs after they missed the X Factor Baseball League playoffs. The club came close, but ultimately ran out of games to secure a postseason spot and were eliminated from contention today.
Chicago last appeared in the postseason in 1945. This is their 37th consecutive year missing the playoffs, and in total they have not advanced past the regular season 101 times in their 111-year history. Chicago last won the World Series in 1908.
