Oklahoma City Befuddled by Garcia in 6-0 Whitewash
Wednesday, August 4th, 1982
Luis Garcia of the Tulsa Drillers was on top of his game today.
The 25-year-old tantalized the Oklahoma City 89ers with crisp curves and changeups, mixed in with just enough fastballs to keep the batters honest and came away with a 6-0 shutout.
"He had the changeup working," Oklahoma City manager said in postgame comments. "You knew it was coming and you still grounded out -- and then he threw it even slower."
The Tulsa hurler had 7 strikeouts, gave up no walks and surrendered 3 hits in his complete-game effort.
Garcia told reporters after the game that "keeping the ball down is the key to being successful in this league."
"If you don't do that, they'll make you pay," he said.
This season in 23 starts Luis Garcia has a record of 15-6 with 163 strikeouts in 186.2 innings and a 2.60 ERA.
