Barrage of Hits Gets Gonzalez AA Award

23-year-old Luis Gonzalez made a few Indianapolis headlines during this past week as the rookie first baseman proved he could compete at the plate with his high-school idols. He captured the attention of fans, journalists and American Association officials last week and today took home Player of the Week honors for his effort.
He cracked 11 hits in 26 at-bats to put up a .423 average. Gonzalez collected 2 home runs, 9 RBIs and scored 3 runs.
This season Gonzalez is batting .187 with 89 hits, 13 home runs, 54 RBIs, 37 walks, .245 OBP and has scored 41 runs. He has played in 121 games.
