The TL's Best Player: William Fewox Thursday, September 30th, 1982 William Fewox said he heard the chants of "MVP! MVP!" during his starts towards the latter half of the season, but he never anticipated he'd actually win the Most Valuable Player Award.
The San Antonio Missions star has in fact won the honor, capturing the 1982 Texas League award.
"You always just assume it's going to go to a position player," said the 28-year-old.
But Fewox's season demanded recognition, as he was 21-4, with a 2.94 ERA in 34 starts.
He threw 266 innings and had 296 strikeouts with 112. Texas League hitters struggled all year against the ace, hitting to an average of only .193.
