CLL's #1 Starter is Cone Wednesday, September 1st, 1982 There's something about a young rookie winning the California League Pitcher of the Month trophy that sends shock waves through the league. Such is the case with David Cone, a 19-year-old starter for the Stockton Mariners. In August, he topped off the month with a 5-0 mark and 1.42 ERA in 5 starts, tossed 44.1 innings, fanned 32 and held opposing teams to a .179 average. This year Cone has posted a 11-1 mark in 15 starts and has a 2.13 ERA. |
