Streak Finally Over, Cosey Held Hitless
Saturday, July 24th, 1982
For once, it was the Dunedin Blue Jays picking up the slack for Ray Cosey.
The club's "offensive catalyst," as Dunedin manager has frequently called him, went uncharacteristically silent today and saw his 24-game hitting streak snapped by the Winter Haven Sun Sox. Cosey was bailed out by the rest of the Blue Jays, however, who stopped the Sun Sox, 6-2.
The 26-year-old center fielder finished the day 0-for-4, and told reporters at the postgame press conference that "everybody did their job but me."
"Not that it was a huge problem -- we still won the game," he said with a grin. "The streak was a good run though. I'll try to start another one tomorrow."
Currently Cosey is batting .348 with 47 hits and 6 home runs. He has knocked in 26 runs and scored 34 times.
