Miami Ace Cops FSL Pitcher of the Year Award Thursday, September 9th, 1982 The Pitcher of the Year Award for 1982 has been presented and the Florida State League winner is Xavier Pickhills of Miami. "It's always nice to receive an award like this," said Pickhills. "I just hope I can improve on my performance next year and be in the running again," the Whales star told reporters. Pickhills excelled with an impressive 11-10 record in 22 starts. In 182.1 innings he yielded 167 hits and 59 walks, while striking out 132 and compiling a fine 2.86 ERA. He received 9 first place votes out of a possible 11. David Morris of the Lakeland Pilots finished second in voting with 1 first place vote, while Julian Gonzalez of the Pompano Beach Stingrays finished third.
