Spirits Snap O'Connor's Streak at 21
Tuesday, July 6th, 1982
Salem third baseman Robert O'Connor went 0-for-4 today in Salem's 14-4 triumph over the Winston-Salem Spirits, snapping his 21-game hitting streak.

O'Connor spoke to BNN after the game and said he "knew the hitting streak would end sooner or later."

"I just would have preferred later," he said with a laugh. "It was fun though."

When O'Connor made an out in his last chance at the plate, his teammates congratulated him in the dugout. In the clubhouse after the game, he seemed unbothered by the streak ending.

"There's nothing scientific about it, that's for sure," Spirits manager said of O'Connor's streak. "He had a nice little run. Let him start another one when we finish the series here."

O'Connor is batting at a .226 pace this season, picking up 56 hits in 248 at-bats with 4 home runs, 22 RBIs and 38 runs scored.
