Cash Named 1982 CRL Most Valuable Player Award Winner
Tuesday, September 14th, 1982
At the age of 22, Preston Cash of the Greensboro Hornets could very well have his best years ahead of him.
It's a startling thought when you consider the year he had in 1982 was good enough to win the left fielder the Carolina League Most Valuable Player Award.
"See the ball, hit the ball," he said. "That's my basic approach."
The top hitter put up a .294 batting average this year, as well as a .487 on-base percentage. He played 95 games and racked up 92 hits, 12 doubles, 1 triple, 32 home runs, 96 RBIs and 91 runs scored.
He received 9 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Greg Jelks of the Greensboro Hornets finished second in voting, while Mark Bailey of the Greensboro Hornets finished third.
