Hennell Slams 5 Hits for Spartanburg
Friday, August 20th, 1982
It was a sensational day at the plate for Spartanburg Spartans first baseman John Hennell, but a tough one for the team, as the Spartans dropped the contest 10-7 to the Sumter Gamecocks.
Even with the loss, Hennell was pure misery for the Sumter pitching staff. He left them shell-shocked after going 5-for-5 in an explosive display of hitting.
"It's always good to get a bunch of hits in a game, but you also want to win," said Hennell, who is the 24-year old first baseman .
"Hennell really hit the ball hard and when you do that, you've got a good chance to do some damage," Gamecocks manager told BNN reporters after the game. "I feel like we threw him some good pitches, but he just put some good swings on the ball."
John Hennell singled in the 1st, doubled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th, singled in the 7th and walked in the 9th.
For the year Hennell is hitting .274 with 19 home runs. His stats include 69 runs batted in and 57 runs scored.
