Greenwell Heads WCL Best Player List Saturday, September 18th, 1982 The future looks extremely bright for Mike Greenwell. At the age of 19, many players are still trying to find their way in Western Carolinas League. Greenwell has not only found his way, he's already established himself as one of the game's brightest stars, today being named the winner of the Western Carolinas League Most Valuable Player Award. "I didn't expect to hit .315 this year, that's for sure," the right fielder said. The Greenwood Grizzlies star also put up a .405 on-base percentage this year, with 141 hits, 29 doubles, 4 triples, 20 home runs, 88 RBIs and 81 runs scored. He received 6 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Jim Sherman of the Greenwood Grizzlies finished second in voting, while Daryl Boston of the Greenwood Grizzlies finished third.
