Helsom Socks it to Timbers, Cracks 5 Hits Monday, August 16th, 1982 Bob Helsom exploded for a barrage of base hits today at Timbers Park. The Quad Cities left fielder had a field day in the 13-4 triumph over the Wausau Timbers, finishing 5-for-5. "My hitting philosophy is simple," he said. "I focus on just seeing the ball and I try to get a good pitch." Helsom must have focused at least 5 times and apparently got some good pitches, too, leading to one of his best days ever with the bat. Bob Helsom hit an RBI double in the 1st, hit a solo-shot off Daniel Pierce in the 4th, singled in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, singled in the 8th and walked in the 9th. On the year Helsom has hit .269 with 6 home runs, 34 RBIs and scored 43 runs. View Boxscore |
