APPY Hands Out Reliever of the Year Award

He may only be 20, but Charlie Mitchell of the Johnson City Soilders has already established himself as one of the elite relievers in the Appalachian League.

The reliever was today named the APPY Reliever of the Year Award winner for 1982.

He won the award with a strong year that saw him put up 15 saves in 22 relief appearances and 18 strikeouts in 21.2 innings. He had a record of 0-2 to go with his 1.66 ERA.

He received 9 first place votes, as a unanimous winner. Jose Cano of the Bristol Bees finished second in voting, while Ray Soff of the Blacksburg Tribe finished third.
