Hat Trick of Home Runs for Ben
Friday, August 13th, 1982
Elijah Ben went yard three times in a Bend Bandits victory over the Bellingham Mariners at Rage Ballpark today.

"I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit."

For the day, the Bend right fielder went 4-for-5 against Bellingham with 5 RBIs and 5 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Bandits to the 21-11 win.

"I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out."

Elijah Ben walked in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Mark Blumenschein in the 2nd, grounded out in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, hit a two-run home run off Bernard Gallo in the 6th, hit a solo-shot off Bernard Gallo in the 8th and walked in the 9th.

On the season, Ben is batting .395 with 5 home runs and 9 RBIs. He has played in 11 games.
