Northwest League Announces Best Starter Wednesday, September 1st, 1982 Faustino Fortinho of Kennewick had an award-winning August as he took home the Northwest League Pitcher of the Month award. "He told me once people used to make fun of the way he pitches," Fortinho's pitching coach told reporters. "There wasn't anybody laughing in August except for Faustino." Fortinho was all business when he took the mound though, collecting a 6-0 record in 7 starts. He struck out 30 batters in 42.1 innings and kept opponents to a .235 batting average. This year Fortinho has fashioned a 9-4 mark, 2.83 ERA and pitched 114.2 innings. Opposing clubs are batting .247 against him and he has logged 65 strikeouts. |
