Dust Devils KO Bear Cubs
Monday, September 13th, 1982
With a 7-5 win over the Kennewick Bear Cubs tonight at Baby Bears Park, the Tri-City Dust Devils wrapped up their 1st title in team history.

Tri-City left little doubt who was the better club. "Team" was the word of the day as the Dust Devils celebrated the culmination of their banner year in the victors clubhouse following the game.

"Hitting, pitching, fielding; those are all things you need to win, but most importantly you need a team, a team that works together toward the same collective goal," said Tri-City manager . "Our players felt that way all year and they played that way. When one guy had an off day, 24 others stepped up their game and filled the void."

A jovial mood filled the air as Tri-City celebrated into the night. The city's mayor said parade plans were underway and a "huge celebration" in the works.

"We're going to celebrate our team, our championship Tri-City Dust Devils," he said.

The champions completed the regular season with a first-place finish in the Northwest League North and a 47-33 record.
