Fort Myers Dazed, Danielsen Gets No-Hitter
Friday, July 16th, 1982
Sandy Danielsen relied on excellent pitch selection and pinpoint control to hold Fort Myers hitless in a 5-0 win at McKechnie Field today.
"Nobody goes out to pitch a no-hitter," he said later. "We just go out and try to get a win. A 10-9 win is better than a 1-0 loss. My pitching buddies might not be too happy giving up nine runs but a win is a win. The key to it today was I mixed my pitches well. I kept the Miracles off balance and guessing the whole game."
The 21-year-old starter rung up 6 strikeouts and 1 walk in whipping the Miracles.
"When a guy is throwing strikes the way he was and is locating well, it is going to be a long day for any club," Fort Myers skipper said.
To date this season, Danielsen has registered 8 starts, 5-2 won-lost mark, 3.58 ERA, 60.1 IP, 49 strikeouts and 25 walks. Opposing teams have hit .191 against him.
