Danielsen Fashions No-Hitter Against Rangers
Thursday, July 29th, 1982
The Clearwater Threshers were just hoping for a solid outing from Sandy Danielsen. Instead, they got something special.
The 21-year-old hurler tossed a no-hitter against the Dunedin Rangers, helping the Threshers take the 3-0 win.
"I felt good throughout the game," he said after his spectacular outing for the Threshers. "As I was going into the ninth inning, I wasn't nervous. I knew I had a chance to do something special."
Danielsen's repertoire has a slider, forkball, changeup, and fastball, and he used it all to full advantage, keeping the Dunedin hitters off balance all game long. The Clearwater hurler fanned 10 and walked 2 in his history-making performance.
"His slider looked about the size of a watermelon seed and it hissed at you as it passed," Dunedin manager joked after the game.
In 11 starts this year Danielsen has posted 7 wins while suffering 3 losses. He has pitched 81 innings, allowed 56 hits, struck out 67 and has a 3.56 ERA.
