Cardinals Hurler Torre Tosses Masterpiece
Sunday, August 8th, 1982
The Clearwater Threshers were almost helpless today in their 7-0 loss to the St. Pete Cardinals and hurler Hugo Torre. Torre kept the Threshers confused all game, spinning a 3-hit shutout.
"Tip your hat to Torre," Clearwater manager said in his postgame interview. "He kept us off balance all night."
The 20-year-old left-hander had 2 walks and 4 strikeouts in a strong performance.
"It just happened to be one of those games where even when I made mistakes, they either fouled them off or someone would make a fine defensive play," Torre said. "It was just one of those games that things went my way."
So far this season Torre has a record of 3-7 with 46 strikeouts and 25 walks in 67 innings and a 4.84 ERA.
