3-HR Binge for Van Burkleo Against Acapulco Monday, January 11th, 1982 Ty Van Burkleo went yard three times in a Merida Olas victory over the Acapulco Locos at Doctors Ballpark today. "I was in a groove," he said. "Every pitch they tossed up there looked like a grapefruit." For the day, the Merida first baseman went 3-for-3 against Acapulco with 7 RBIs and 3 runs scored in a brilliant display of power hitting that led the Olas to the 13-4 win. "I tell you what. I'm shocked because I didn't think that last ball had enough to get out," he told BNN reporters in the clubhouse following the game. "I thought it was just going to be a long out." Ty Van Burkleo hit a three-run home run off Bill Sattler in the 2nd, hit a solo-shot off Bill Sattler in the 4th and hit a three-run home run off Owen Foley in the 5th. For the season Van Burkleo is hitting .194, batted in 39 runs with 9 home runs and 27 runs scored. |
