Ironside Goes 5-for-6 Friday, May 1st, 1970 Even as a kid, Rich Ironside said his coaches told him the key to hitting was making contact, and letting everything else flow from there. At Eagles Ballpark today, Ironside showed how well he learned that lesson. The 18-year-old left fielder had 5 hits in 6 at-bats for the Annandale HS Pirhanas, helping his team knock off the Kendall HS Styx by a score of 12-3. "They always said, just keep your eye on the ball, don't overswing, make contact and you never know what will happen," he said. "That's all I did today." Rich Ironside singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, doubled in the 7th, singled in the 8th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
