Rays Bollinger Smacks 5 Hits
Thursday, May 7th, 1970
After a 5-hit effort to lead Wilson HS's 8-1 victory over the Ft. Myers HS Flight, right fielder Tom Bollinger told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the Southeast High School-level is really something special."
The 16-year-old player earned his accolades today at Ballpark of Oakland HS with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Flight.
"His swing is getting there," said Rays skipper , who spoke glowingly of Bollinger after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Tom did that to perfection today."
Tom Bollinger singled in the 1st, hit a two-run home run off Mike Wilkerson in the 3rd, singled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit an RBI double in the 8th.
So far this season Bollinger has hit .370 with 8 home runs, 29 RBIs and scored 34 times.
