5-Hit Barrage by Safran
Wednesday, April 1st, 1970
Getting 5 hits in a game has always been memorable feat in baseball. In the Conway HS's 17-9 win over Davie HS today, first baseman Jay Safran was red-hot, scorching them for hit after hit at Las Vegas HS Grounds.
"To hit the ball consistently well, you have to relax," Safran said afterward. "I was relaxed for the first four hits, but I have to admit, I got a little tight when I realized I had a chance for five. On the last at-bat, I was ready to swing at anything close."
Jay Safran singled in the 1st, singled in the 3rd, hit a two-run single in the 4th, doubled in the 5th, hit a three-run double in the 6th and grounded out in the 8th.
