Winans Bangs Out 5 Base Hits
Tuesday, April 28th, 1970
Camarillo HS Thunderbirds left fielder Taylor Winans had a day to remember at Thunderbirds Ballpark today, ripping apart the Renton HS Condors and sparking the Thunderbirds to a 14-4 victory.

Winans wrote his name in the record books with a 5-hit barrage, finishing his special day 5-for-5.

"I'm usually a first ball hitter," Winans told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it."

Taylor Winans singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th and singled in the 7th.

Winans is batting at a .384 pace this season, picking up 38 hits in 99 at-bats with 3 home runs, 35 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
