Winans Bangs Out 5 Base Hits Tuesday, April 28th, 1970 Camarillo HS Thunderbirds left fielder Taylor Winans had a day to remember at Thunderbirds Ballpark today, ripping apart the Renton HS Condors and sparking the Thunderbirds to a 14-4 victory. Winans wrote his name in the record books with a 5-hit barrage, finishing his special day 5-for-5. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Winans told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it." Taylor Winans singled in the 2nd, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th and singled in the 7th.
