Eckloff Torches Peacocks for 5 Hits
Monday, May 11th, 1970
After a 5-hit effort to lead Renton HS's 19-10 victory over the Fairfield HS Peacocks, center fielder Jamie Eckloff told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."
"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the West Coast High School-level is really something special."
The 15-year-old player earned his accolades today at Condors Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Peacocks.
"His swing is getting there," said Condors skipper , who spoke glowingly of Eckloff after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Jamie did that to perfection today."
Jamie Eckloff doubled in the 1st, walked in the 2nd, hit an RBI double in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, singled in the 7th and hit a two-run single in the 8th.
For the season Eckloff has produced 78 hits in 155 at-bats for a .503 average with 9 home runs and gotten on base at a .600 clip.
