Great Day for Vardiman -- 5 Hits Wednesday, April 1st, 1970 It was a downpour of hits for Jaden Vardiman at PETCO Park today. The San Leandro HS Padres left fielder tore into Renton HS for 5 hits in 6 at-bats to pace the Padres to a rain-delayed 16-12 victory. Renton HS manager bemoaned his pitching, speculating his club got flustered by Vardiman's big day. "He was beating us and we stopped locating well," he said. "That makes you get behind in the count and you can't do that when a guy is hot like Vardiman was today. Not to take anything away from him, but bad location was the story of the ballgame." Jaden Vardiman grounded out in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 3rd, singled in the 4th, hit an RBI double in the 5th, hit an RBI double in the 7th and singled in the 8th. View Boxscore |
