El Monte HS Star, Pitcher of the Year Award Winner Monday, May 25th, 1970 16-year-old Jason Wiard of the El Monte HS Mastadons put together a good year in 1970 for such a young player. Wiard was named today as the winner of the Conference 1 Pitcher of the Year Award. Wiard crafted an impressive 5-0 record and a 2.05 ERA. In 48.1 innings he allowed 33 hits, struck out 40, and walked 15. Robby Patterson of the Gresham HS Troglodytes finished second in voting, while Adrian Wolf of the West Covina HS Blue Ox finished third. |
