Wild Riders Yacker Smacks 6 Hits Monday, April 6th, 1970 South Whittier HS Wild Riders second baseman Steve Yacker had a day to remember at Ballpark of Wichita HS today, ripping apart the Newport Beach HS Heroes and sparking the Wild Riders to a 26-9 victory. Yacker wrote his name in the record books with a 6-hit barrage, finishing his special day 6-for-8. "I'm usually a first ball hitter," Yacker told BNN reporters in the postgame press conference. "I think pitchers think batters are going to let the first one go by. I never do. I've always found that it's better to pull the trigger early in the count. Pitchers get real nasty when they get ahead of you, so I try to avoid it." Steve Yacker doubled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, hit a two-run single in the 3rd, grounded out in the 5th, hit a two-run double in the 6th, hit an RBI single in the 7th, singled in the 8th and flied out in the 8th. This season Yacker is batting .400 with 12 hits and no home runs. He has scored 10 times and has 7 RBI. View Boxscore |
