Mathis Sensational, 5-for-6 Friday, April 10th, 1970 It's not something you read about in the sports pages every day -- a 5-for-6 day. For many, it might come around only once in a career -- and for John Mathis, it came around today. The 16-year-old center fielder scattered hits all over Ballpark of Minneapolis HS to pace the Manteca HS Warlocks to a 22-14 victory over the Richmond HS Loggerheads. Richmond HS skipper told reporters in the press room that "Mathis deserves a hat-tip." "He hit some good pitches against us," he said. "In fact, according to our scouting reports, Mathis hit several that he is not supposed to be able to hit." John Mathis singled in the 1st, grounded out in the 2nd, walked in the 4th, hit an RBI single in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th, singled in the 8th and hit an RBI single in the 9th.
