Hit Parade: Oster Pops 5 Hits
Friday, April 10th, 1970
After a 5-hit effort to lead San Mateo HS's 10-4 victory over the Tacoma HS Lions, first baseman Tom Oster told BNN beat writers it had been "a special day."

"It really doesn't matter whether it's sandlot ball, high school or college, two hits in a game is nice," he said. "Three or four is better, but five or more is out of sight. And to do that at the West Coast High School-level is really something special."

The 16-year-old player earned his accolades today at Lions Ballpark with a spectacular 5-for-5 game against the Lions.

"His swing is getting there," said Birds skipper , who spoke glowingly of Oster after the game. "We want him to be quick with his swing, short and compact. We want him to be patient and go the other way when he can. Tom did that to perfection today."

Tom Oster hit a two-run single in the 1st, singled in the 2nd, singled in the 4th, singled in the 6th and doubled in the 8th.

This season Oster is batting .372 with 16 hits, 1 home run, 11 RBIs, 8 walks, .463 OBP and has scored 9 runs. He has played in 10 games.
