Chopp Sizzles -- Smokes Jacks for 5 Hits Monday, April 20th, 1970 The Ventura HS Annihilators stopped the Victorville HS Jacks by a score of 15-9 at Ballpark of Oakland HS today, with the lion's share of the credit going to first baseman Nick Chopp. The 17-year-old had a career day, collecting 5 hits. "Every batter wants to have a quality at-bat every time he steps up to the plate," Chopp said later. "He wants to hit the ball hard." Chopp did just that in his 6 at-bats, much to the chagrin of the Jacks. "Not much that I can say," offered Victorville HS manager . "He just hammered the heck out of us." Nick Chopp tripled in the 1st, hit an RBI single in the 2nd, singled in the 3rd, struck out in the 5th, hit an RBI single in the 6th and hit an RBI single in the 8th. Thus far in 1970 Chopp is hitting .474 with no home runs, 15 RBIs, 17 runs scored and has compiled a .544 OBP. View Boxscore |
