Akers Red-Hot, SL2 Player of the Week Monday, May 4th, 1970 A hot-hitting week got Travis Akers the Conference 2 Player of the Week trophy. He really wore out his welcome with league pitchers. The Elgin HS center fielder slammed them for a .559 average, 19 hits in 34 at-bats, 2 home runs, 13 RBIs and scored 7 runs. In the postgame press conference, Akers shared his hitting philosophy with the BNN scribes: "Just look for the seams and hit between them... nothin' more than that." This season Akers is batting .383 with 3 home runs. |
