Streak Finally Over, Prather Held Hitless
Sunday, May 10th, 1970
It was the best of both worlds for the Canton HS Red Dogs today at Oakland HS Grounds, as they defeated the Kalamazoo HS Pirhanas 10-3 and also snapped Art Prather's 21-game hitting streak. The 18-year-old Kalamazoo HS first baseman failed to get a hit in 3 at-bats.
"Nothing personal against Prather, we just wanted to win the game," said Red Dogs skipper . "We did a great job keeping him off-balance and guessing."
When asked by reporters about his streak coming to an end, Prather frowned and said, "I won't lie and say that I'm not disappointed about it, but I'd feel much better if we had won."
Prather is hitting at a .411 mark this season. His stats show 2 home runs, 31 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He has played 35 games for the Pirhanas.
